This is an OTM that one of my lovely RHA kids wrote about me…I’m not gonna lie, it totes made me tear up!
Adam Freidman is a senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has always been an active student leader on campus. He was a former Community Assistant and RHA Executive board member (holding the positions of both Secretary and President). Adam is the definition of student leader; he is constantly working to improve life on campus for the students. Whether it be office hours, his programming with Halls of Horror or his just day to day activity he does it to the greatest of his ability. As I began to get involved in Residence Hall Association, Adam became a quick influence on my life. This past month Adam had some devastating news, not only to him but to our community. However much like Adam always does he put everybody else before himself, making sure we were okay before he worried about how he felt. He still continued to be the best student leader he could be even though he was no longer required to be. Adam, for reasons beyond his control, had to leave the university. When he discovered this he waited to tell people because he didn’t want the news to ruin their mood for an upcoming conference. Then, in preparing for leaving he made sure that nothing was left hanging, he found an excellent replacement and handled goodbyes with great strength. I have never once heard Adam wanting people to feel bad for his situation; he always looks at the positive. Adam knows that this is not the end and is working in every way he can to continue his life plan, in the mean time he will continue to be strong. I have never met a person who could affect my life so much; he challenged me to believe in myself and gave me great strength. We all are faced with problems and tragedy in our lives, some don’t handle it, some handle it with a negative attitude and others take those negative moments and grow from them. I have no doubt in my mind that Adam is one of those people and he will continue to do incredible and courageous things in his life. This university nor RHA will be the same without Adam his actions have not gone unnoticed and this is why I strongly recommend him for an “Of the Month” award.
